Last night I did a zoom training for a group out of Brazil.

It was one of those where I got flooded afterward with messages and thank you’s about how the training impacted them. In fact, I woke up with about 15 new messages that came in overnight.

As a speaker, it feels great to know that your training made an impact.

So as I sit here in my writing chair sipping my morning coffee, I started thinking about why I’ve been able to become a great trainer. Because the truth is, I’ve never had any formal speaking training.

I have heard a few talks over the years on public speaking and I did spend $10,000 for a one day coaching on closing from the platform but no toastmasters… No public speaking certificationsNo national speakers association events or anything like that.

Simple Tip to Become a Great Motivational Speaker and Trainer in Network Marketing

My tip today is pretty simple.

If you want to be a quality speaker, that quality will come with quantity.

You can obsess all day long about creating the perfect training, but if you’re not training on a regular basis, no amount of preparation will make you a truly great speaker.

And don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying not to prepare. It’s great to prepare… but speaking is a lot like building a muscle. No amount of perfect form is going to make up for not doing the reps day in and day out.

One of the reasons why so many great speakers come from our profession is because as you’ve built a team, you have an opportunity to do a ton of presentations for your products, services, and many opportunities to do training for the team you create.

It’s why door to door salespeople often make the best salespeople. It’s not that they have the best training. It’s the simple fact that they get to pitch so many more times a day than most salespeople.

What got me good on the phone, as an example, wasn’t that I had any kind of telemarketing training that was unique. It was that I made thousands of calls and pitched thousands of people.

You see, much of being a great trainer is simply being comfortable in your own skin and learning how to shut up the inner critic that’s inside all of us.

In the beginning as a speaker, I remember my inner voice constantly evaluating and critiquing each sentence and being constantly worried if I was coming across the right way. I had two conversations going on… one was with me and the crowd and the other, which often seemed much louder in my mind, was the conversation my inner voice was having with myself.

What got me over being beat up by my inner critic was simply doing it. Over and over and over until I got comfortable.

There is an art and a science to being a great trainer in network marketing.

The science is the easy part… it’s the tactical delivery of your speech.

The science is the content you provide.

But the science pales in importance to the art.

The art is what makes a truly great speaker.

The art is the feeling you provide.

You’ve probably heard the quote from Maya Angelou:

“People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.”

If you want to learn the art of being able to move people and transfer emotion powerfully, that comes from repetition.

It will come from you doing it even when you suck and even when you want to crawl into the fetal position and hide.

Be brave, my friend, and have the courage to get the reps in so you can eventually have mastery and light up stages all over the world.

Let’s do BIG things!
